Ecobuild – Your Views?

As most of my connections are building industry based I am interested in your views on Ecobuild 2017.

As a former exhibitor, I have always supported the event.  We have collected very good leads over the years, some of which turned into substantial business.  Attending this year as a visitor, I was surprised at just how small it had become, this trade show giant had shrunk in size compared with just a couple of years ago.  The aisles (considerably wider than before!) seemed busy in the middle of the day but that footfall soon fell away.  Confined to the North side of ExCeL and taking up just a fraction of the hall space available, vast swathes were filled with networking and cafe areas.  Gone were the show-stopping stands of 2/3/4/5 years ago, instead, more shell schemes and pop-ups than ever before.  There were also noticeable big-name absences…

As I walked around, talking with acquaintances old and new and listening to a seminar or two (very weak compared to the UBM days) I asked myself a few questions:

  • Is the show really an eco show? Or as I saw it this year, very much an offsite one?
  • Did the change of owner have a greater impact than expected?
  • As with any exhibition they have to evolve and change, so what’s next for Ecobuild?

What did you think?
